More details on the Green Deal cash back scheme

The Government has made up to £125 million available in a cash back scheme for people that take up Green Deal installations. This scheme is designed on a first-come, first-served basis, with those taking up the Green Deal early being rewarded the most. The amount of cash back that is available for each installation is outlined in Table 1 below. These cash back amounts will be reviewed once the first £40 million has been awarded to Green Deal customers; it is expected that the scheme will remain in place once this money has been spent, although the cash back amounts are likely to be reduced.

According to the Energy Secretary, Edward Davey:

“The Green Deal will provide unprecedented choice for consumers wanting to improve their homes and make them more energy efficient. This cash back offer will help get the Green Deal off to a flying start. It really is a great offer – the more work households have done, the more energy they stand to save and the more cash they receive.”

Homeowners need apply for the cash back voucher, as it is not sent automatically. To qualify for the cash back, homeowners must:

·         Have a Green Deal Assessment carried out on the property;

·         Obtain and agree quotes from a Green Deal Provider;

·         Apply for the cash back voucher online or by phone;

·         Receive the voucher confirming the cash back;

·         Complete the Green Deal works within the specified period;

·         Redeem the voucher providing evidence of the completed works.

Homeowners must arrange for the work to be completed through a Green Deal Provider, however the work is financed – whether through private funding or Green Deal finance – if they are to qualify for the cash back. Homeowners can only make one claim for cash back but the claim can cover a number of improvements recommended on the Green Deal Scheme. The amount of cash back that can be received will be capped at 50 per cent of the home owner’s installation costs.
